Hailing from Chicago, Illinois with deep roots in Mississippi combined with Texas-inspired barbecue mastery, Ron Conner is a specialist of the low and slow smoked proteins that define great American BBQ. His unique culinary journey began with a deep appreciation for the regional flavors of his roots, blended with the iconic BBQ culture of Texas. This experience fueled his passion for the craft, leading him to become a well-versed KCBS Judge to further explore diverse styles and flavor profiles across the barbecue spectrum.
In 2018, Ron took his passion to the next level by launching "U WANT DAT SMOKE BBQ", a creative BBQ venture that brought a fresh twist to the Chicagoland area. His exceptional skills have not only won the hearts of local food enthusiasts but have also caught the attention of BBQ lovers nationwide.
Ron's contributions to the culinary world include cooking for prestigious gatherings such as Sheila Johnson's 'Family Reunion, the Chicago James Beard Award after party, catering for notable local events, businesses and Illinois county officials. He has contributed as a pit master panelist for celebrity chef tasting experiences and was interviewed on The Unknowns Black Pitmasters podcast.
Above all, Ron believes that at the heart of barbecue lies the joy of family, friends, fellowship, and the unforgettable experiences created around the fire. When the smoke clears, it's these moments that matter most.
